Without side shift, the stacker driver must align the entire vehicle with the target container using steering alone. In tight yard rows, this alignment process can take 30–60 seconds per pick-up. With side shift, the driver positions the vehicle approximately, then uses the side shift cylinder to slide the spreader left or right by up to 1,500 mm — fine-tuning the alignment hydraulically instead of mechanically.
