Custom Hydraulic Cylinder for Forklift Steering
Custom Forklift Steering Hydraulic Cylinder
Standard steering cylinders fit standard forklifts. But forklift OEMs designing a new platform, attachment manufacturers integrating steering into a custom vehicle, and fleet operators replacing obsolete cylinders on legacy equipment all face the same problem: the catalogue dimensions do not match. The bore is 5 mm too large, the mounting centres are 15 mm off, the port location interferes with a frame member, or the required seal specification exceeds the standard offering. This is where custom manufacturing replaces catalogue shopping. Korea Ever-Power engineers and produces custom forklift steering hydraulic cylinders from your drawings or from your application requirements — one piece for prototyping, one million pieces for volume production.
From Your Drawing to Delivered Cylinders — The OEM Workflow
Korea Ever-Power operates both OEM (build to your complete drawing) and ODM (engineer the design from your application spec) manufacturing streams. Both follow the same quality process but enter the workflow at different points.
Requirement Submission
Submit your engineering drawing (OEM) or provide the application parameters — bore range, stroke, working pressure, mounting type, port position, seal specification, and any environmental requirements such as temperature range, corrosion resistance, or food-grade compliance (ODM).
Engineering Review
Our hydraulic engineering team reviews the specification for manufacturability, verifies the pressure/bore/wall-thickness relationship against ISO 6022 / ISO 6020 standards, and confirms the seal configuration. For ODM projects, we produce a preliminary assembly drawing for your approval before tooling begins.
Prototype & Validation
First-article production, dimensional inspection report, hydrostatic proof test at 1.5× working pressure, and leakage test per ISO 10100. We ship the prototype with a full inspection certificate. You install, test, and provide feedback. Design modifications are incorporated before production release.
Volume Production
Series production on dedicated CNC lines with in-process SPC monitoring. Every cylinder 100% pressure-tested. Packaging per your specification — individual poly bags, foam-lined cartons, wooden crates, or custom branded packaging. Delivery scheduling via blanket orders with monthly call-off quantities.

What You Specify — Every Parameter Is Configurable
Unlike standard catalogue cylinders where the bore, stroke, and ports are fixed, the custom steering cylinder program accepts your specification on every functional parameter. The table below lists the design variables and the range of options available for each.

|---|---|
| Cylinder Action | Double-acting (standard for steering) or single-acting |
| Bore Diameter | Φ25 – Φ200 mm (steering typically Φ50–Φ100) |
| Rod Diameter | Calculated per bore and pressure; single-rod or dual-rod configurations |
| Stroke | Any dimension; symmetric dual-stroke for centre-mount steering |
| Working Pressure | Up to 35 MPa (wall thickness and material grade adjusted accordingly) |
| Body Material | 20# carbon steel (standard), 45# medium carbon steel (high-strength), stainless steel (corrosion) |
| Rod Material & Finish | C45 / SAE 1045 induction hardened + hard chrome; ceramic rod coating available for extreme wear |
| Seal Brands | Parker, NOK, Hallite, Busak Shamban — or customer-specified brand |
| Mounting Type | Clevis, trunnion, flange, cross-tube, spherical bearing — per your geometry |
| Port Configuration | BSP, metric, SAE O-ring, JIC — any thread standard, any position on the barrel |
| External Finish | E-coat, powder coat, zinc plating, nickel plating — any colour RAL code |
| Branding | Korea Ever-Power, your OEM brand, or unbranded per your requirement |
Premium Seal Brands — Your Choice, Your Standard
The seal brand determines the cylinder's leak-free service life, temperature range, and chemical compatibility. Many forklift OEMs mandate a specific seal supplier as part of their global sourcing standard. Korea Ever-Power maintains direct supply relationships with the four major hydraulic seal manufacturers, allowing you to specify the exact seal brand and compound in your custom cylinder.
Global standard for forklift OEM applications. Parker Prädifa and Parker Polypac rod seal profiles offer the widest temperature range (-40°C to +110°C) and the broadest chemical resistance portfolio. Most commonly specified by European and North American forklift OEMs.
Dominant in Japanese and Korean forklift OEM supply chains. NOK seal compounds are formulated for the specific hydraulic oil grades used by Toyota, Komatsu, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai forklift platforms. Preferred when the cylinder must match an existing Japanese-origin seal specification.
Specialist heavy-duty seal profiles for high-cycle steering applications. Hallite's PTFE-based rod seals offer exceptionally low friction and long service life in rapid-cycle steering systems — reducing the steering effort the operator feels at the wheel and extending the maintenance interval.
Premium European seal profiles with advanced material compounds for extreme-environment applications — cold storage (-40°C), food-grade washdown, and high-contamination outdoor operations. The Turcon and Zurcon material families cover applications that exceed the temperature or chemical limits of standard NBR and polyurethane seals.
Quality Assurance — Every Cylinder 100% Tested
Custom manufacturing carries a higher quality risk than standard catalogue production because every new design introduces new dimensional relationships that have not been validated by millions of production hours. Korea Ever-Power mitigates this risk through a multi-stage quality process that tests both the design and the production execution.
| Quality Gate | What Is Checked | Standard Applied |
|---|---|---|
| Incoming Material | Steel tube mill certificate, chrome rod hardness, seal compound batch report | EN 10204 Type 3.1 |
| Machining Inspection | Bore diameter, bore surface finish (Ra), rod concentricity, port thread gauge | ISO 6020/6022 |
| Weld Inspection | Visual, dimensional, and penetrant testing on all structural welds | ISO 5817 Class B |
| Proof Pressure Test | 1.5× working pressure, hold 2 minutes, zero deformation | ISO 10100 |
| Leakage Test | Rated pressure, 3-minute hold, zero external leakage, internal leakage per spec | ISO 10100 |
| Function Test | Full stroke extension/retraction, speed, cushioning (if specified) | Customer spec |
| Final Inspection | Dimensional report, surface finish, paint/coating thickness, marking/branding | Customer drawing |
When Custom Manufacturing Makes More Sense Than Standard
A standard catalogue cylinder is always cheaper than a custom one — if it fits. The situations below represent the cases where custom manufacturing provides a technical or commercial advantage that the catalogue cannot.
When an OEM is designing a new forklift model, the steering geometry is optimised for the vehicle's wheelbase, axle track, and turning radius requirements — not for an existing cylinder catalogue. The cylinder dimensions follow from the vehicle design, not the other way around. Custom manufacturing allows the cylinder to integrate seamlessly into the optimised geometry rather than forcing the vehicle design to accommodate a catalogue cylinder.
Forklifts manufactured 15–30 years ago use steering cylinders from suppliers that may no longer exist. The original part numbers are discontinued, and no aftermarket equivalent is available. Custom manufacturing from the original drawing (or from reverse-engineering measurements taken from the failed cylinder) produces a direct replacement that restores the vehicle to its original steering specification without modification to the axle or linkage.
Large forklift fleets (200+ vehicles) with multiple makes and models maintain dozens of different seal kit part numbers. By specifying all custom replacement cylinders with a single seal brand (e.g., Parker throughout), the fleet reduces its seal inventory from dozens of part numbers to a manageable few — cutting parts inventory cost and eliminating the risk of installing the wrong seal in the wrong cylinder.
Standard catalogue steering cylinders are designed for -20°C to +80°C with standard NBR seals. Forklifts operating in blast freezers (-40°C), foundries (+120°C), marine salt-air environments, or food-processing washdown zones need seal materials, surface treatments, and coating specifications that no standard catalogue cylinder offers. Custom manufacturing addresses the specific environmental requirements with the appropriate material selection.
Base Architecture — 16 Components, Fully Customisable
Every custom steering cylinder is built on the same proven 16-component architecture used in the Korea Ever-Power standard steering cylinder range. The architecture provides the structural foundation; the custom dimensions, materials, and seals adapt it to your specific application.
