A stacker reclaimer moves thousands of tonnes of coal, iron ore, or aggregate per hour \u2014 and the skeleton pitch cylinder controls where it all goes. By adjusting the cantilever boom angle, the cylinder directs material onto the correct part of the stockpile during stacking and positions the bucket wheel at the correct height during reclaiming.<\/p>\n

What Is a Stacker Reclaimer and Why Does It Need Pitch Control?<\/h2>\n

A stacker reclaimer is a large machine used in ports, mines, steel mills, and power plants to stack bulk materials (coal, iron ore, limestone, aggregate, grain) into stockpiles and reclaim them for processing or shipping. The machine has a long cantilever boom (30\u201360 metres) with a belt conveyor running along its length and a bucket wheel or scraper at the tip.<\/p>\n

The skeleton pitch cylinder raises and lowers this cantilever boom. During stacking, the boom pitches upward to deposit material at the top of the stockpile, then gradually lowers as the pile grows. During reclaiming, the boom pitches downward to dig into the stockpile face. The cylinder must hold the boom at precise angles under the combined weight of the boom structure, the conveyor belt (loaded with material), and the dynamic forces from the bucket wheel cutting into compacted material.<\/p>\n
