Fork Positioner vs Side Shift — Two Different Functions
A fork positioner adjusts the distance between the two forks. Without a positioner, the operator must dismount, pull the locking pin on each fork, manually slide the forks to the new spacing, and re-lock the pins — a process that takes 3–5 minutes per adjustment. A hydraulic fork positioner does this in seconds, from the operator's seat, controlled by a valve lever or joystick. The fork spacing cylinder sits inside the attachment frame, connected to each fork arm by a linkage mechanism.
A side shift moves the entire fork assembly — both forks together — left or right by 100–150 mm from the mast centreline. This allows the operator to fine-tune the load position without repositioning the forklift itself. The side shift cylinder is mounted horizontally across the carriage and pushes the fork carrier along a rail. It eliminates the need for precise forklift positioning on every pick and place cycle — saving time and reducing tyre wear from constant steering corrections.

Why Do Attachment Cylinders Operate at Higher Pressure?
The fork positioner and side shift cylinders operate at 18–25 MPa — higher than the standard forklift tilt cylinder (18.1 MPa) and steering cylinder (16 MPa). The reason is space constraint:
The cylinder must fit inside the attachment housing — there is limited space between the fork arms and the carriage frame. A smaller bore at higher pressure produces the same force as a larger bore at lower pressure, while occupying less space.
The 1.4× safety factor (25 MPa working → 35 MPa max) accounts for shock loads when the forks contact pallets, racking, or the ground during positioning. The attachment cylinder experiences more impact loading than a mast cylinder.
The EP-HCYY11112030 at Φ125 bore and 25 MPa is designed for heavy-duty clamp or rotator attachments — where the cylinder must grip, compress, or rotate loads up to several tonnes. At 38 kg, this is the heaviest cylinder in the forklift attachment range.
