Forklift Hydraulic Cylinder

Forklift Lifting Cylinder
EP-HCYY11112000 · Bore Φ56–60mm · Stroke 1,500mm

The main lift force on every counterbalanced forklift. The lifting cylinder raises and lowers the carriage — carrying the forks, the load, and the spreader attachment — along the full height of the mast. A 1,500 mm stroke, multiplied through a chain-and-pulley system, delivers 3,000+ mm of actual lifting height. Installed in left/right pairs inside the mast channels.

How the Lifting Cylinder Raises the Load

Forklift mast lifting mechanism with hydraulic cylinder and chain system

The lifting cylinder is mounted vertically inside the mast channel — one cylinder on the left side, one on the right. When hydraulic pressure is applied, both cylinders extend simultaneously, pushing the carriage upward along the mast rails. A chain-and-sheave system connects each cylinder rod to the carriage, providing a 2:1 mechanical multiplication — so the 1,500 mm cylinder stroke produces approximately 3,000 mm of actual carriage travel.

The high rod-to-bore ratio (up to 80.4%) is a deliberate design choice. The lifting cylinder must fit inside the narrow mast channel — typically only 80–100 mm wide. A thick rod with a compact bore minimises the cylinder's cross-section while providing the column strength needed to push the loaded carriage (up to 3,500 kg of load + carriage + attachment weight) vertically without rod buckling over the 1,500 mm extended length.

Lowering is controlled by metering the return oil flow. A counterbalance valve prevents the carriage from falling if the hydraulic supply is lost — the loaded carriage can only descend when the operator actively commands it. Browse the full forklift hydraulic cylinder range.

Available Specifications

Five specifications are available for the forklift lifting cylinder, covering different mast heights and forklift configurations. Left-hand and right-hand cylinders are supplied as matched pairs:

No. Bore (D) Rod (d) Stroke (S) Inst. Dist. (L) Specifications L / R
1 Φ56 Φ45 1,500 1,658 Φ56×Φ45×1500 Left / Right
2 Φ56 Φ45 1,500 1,658 Φ56×Φ45×1500 Right only
3 Φ60 Φ45 1,505 1,780 Φ60×Φ45×1505 Left / Right
4 Φ60 Φ45 1,500 1,808 Φ60×Φ45×1500 Left / Right
5 Φ60 Φ45 1,500 1,808 Φ60×Φ45×1500 Right only

Why the High Rod-to-Bore Ratio?

At 80.4% (Φ45 rod inside Φ56 bore), the lifting cylinder has one of the highest rod ratios among forklift hydraulic cylinders. This is not a cost compromise — it is a specific engineering requirement:

Fits Inside the Mast Channel

The cylinder sits inside a narrow C-channel in the mast structure. A thick rod with a compact bore keeps the overall cylinder diameter small enough to fit — while still providing the force needed to lift the full rated load.

Column Strength at Full Extension

The rod extends 1,500 mm vertically under load. A thin rod would buckle. The Φ45 mm rod provides the column stiffness needed to push the loaded carriage straight up without deflection — even at maximum stroke with maximum load.

Controlled Lowering Speed

The small annular area (bore minus rod) limits the oil flow rate during lowering. This inherently slows the descent speed — providing a natural speed control that supplements the counterbalance valve.

Key Advantages

  • 1,500 mm stroke for 3,000+ mm lift height — through a 2:1 chain multiplication system, the cylinder stroke is doubled at the carriage. A 1,500 mm cylinder produces over 3 metres of actual lifting travel.
  • Counterbalance valve for safe lowering — prevents uncontrolled descent if hydraulic supply is lost. The loaded carriage stays at height until the operator commands it down.
  • 27.15 MPa maximum withstand pressure — 1.50× safety factor over the 18.1 MPa working pressure. Handles dynamic loads from load sway, chain acceleration, and sudden stops.
  • Left / Right paired installation — two cylinders work in parallel inside the mast channels, providing balanced lifting force on both sides of the carriage. Eliminates carriage tilt and uneven chain wear.
  • Hard-chrome rod, precision-honed bore — the 1,500 mm stroke exposes a long section of rod surface with every cycle. Surface quality (Ra ≤0.2 µm) is critical for seal longevity over the high number of lifting cycles per shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a 1,500 mm cylinder achieve 3,000+ mm lift height?

Through chain-and-sheave multiplication. A chain is anchored to the mast, loops over a sheave on the carriage, and returns to the cylinder rod. When the cylinder extends 1,500 mm, the chain doubles the travel at the carriage — producing approximately 3,000 mm of lift. On triple-stage masts, the multiplication is higher.

Why are there left and right variants?

The hydraulic port and hose routing differ between the left and right mast channels. Some specifications have identical left/right cylinders (port position is symmetrical). Others have a dedicated right-hand cylinder with a different port orientation. Check the specification table for L/R availability.

What is the difference between Φ56 and Φ60 bore?

The Φ60 bore produces approximately 15% more lifting force at the same working pressure. The larger bore is used on forklifts with higher rated capacities or heavier attachments. The installation distance also differs (1,658 mm vs 1,780–1,808 mm), reflecting different mast designs.

Should I replace both lifting cylinders at the same time?

Recommended. Mismatched cylinders (one new, one worn) can cause uneven lifting — the carriage tilts to one side, creating uneven chain tension and accelerating wear. Korea Ever-Power supplies lifting cylinders in matched pairs from the same production batch.

What is the typical replacement interval?

Seal replacement: every 3,000–5,000 operating hours. The long 1,500 mm stroke exposes more rod surface area to contamination than the shorter tilt or steering cylinders, so seals may wear faster in dusty warehouse environments.

Can this lifting cylinder be used on triple-stage masts?

The EP-HCYY11112000 is designed for standard duplex (two-stage) masts. Triple-stage masts use a different cylinder configuration with a free-lift (short lifting) cylinder for the first stage. Browse the forklift hydraulic cylinder range for the short lifting cylinder.

What Our Customers Say

★★★★★Apr 2026

"Replaced lifting cylinders on 8 forklifts — the Φ56 specification matched our existing mast channels perfectly. The 80% rod ratio worried us initially, but the cylinders lift smoothly with no rod deflection even at full stroke under maximum load. After 7 months, zero seal leaks."

R. Kowalski — Maintenance Manager, Poland

★★★★★Jan 2026

"We ordered left/right matched pairs for 5 forklifts. Carriage lifting is noticeably smoother and more even compared to our old mismatched cylinders. The 1,658 mm installation distance was exact — direct swap."

A. Schmidt — Workshop Foreman, Germany

★★★★☆Sep 2025

"Good quality lifting cylinders. The 33 kg weight is manageable for a single technician with a strap hoist. The rod chrome finish is uniform across the full 1,500 mm length. Delivery took 7 weeks — slightly longer than quoted."

C. Eriksson — Service Technician, Sweden

★★★★★Jun 2025

"We switched to Korea Ever-Power lifting cylinders across our 30-forklift fleet. Cost saving versus OEM parts: approximately 35%. Quality is equivalent — we ran a side-by-side comparison on our test mast and measured identical lift speed and pressure drop."

M. Oliveira — Fleet Director, Brazil

★★★★★Feb 2025

"Second order. We now use Korea Ever-Power for both tilt and lifting cylinders on all our forklifts. Ordering tilt + lifting as a combined set simplifies procurement and ensures compatible quality across the mast assembly."

K. Nakamura — Purchasing Manager, Japan
