Forklift Hydraulic Cylinder

Pallet Truck Lift Cylinder
Ultra-Compact · Bore Φ40–45mm · Stroke 120–155mm

The smallest, lightest hydraulic cylinder in the forklift family — yet it moves every pallet in the warehouse. The pallet truck lift cylinder raises the forks just 120–155 mm: enough to clear the floor, lift the pallet, and transport it. Millions of these cylinders operate worldwide in electric walkie pallet trucks, rider pallet trucks, and manual pallet jacks.

How the Pallet Truck Lift Cylinder Works

Electric pallet truck with hydraulic lift mechanism

The pallet truck lift cylinder sits vertically inside the truck's main body, hidden behind the battery compartment or pump housing. When the operator presses the lift button (electric) or pumps the handle (manual), hydraulic pressure extends the cylinder rod upward. A linkage mechanism connects the rod to the fork arms, converting the short vertical cylinder stroke into fork elevation.

The stroke is deliberately short — 120 to 155 mm — because the forks only need to rise enough to clear the floor surface and lift the pallet clear of the ground. A typical pallet truck raises the load 85–200 mm, depending on the linkage ratio. More stroke than this is unnecessary and would increase the truck's overall height and weight.

Lowering is controlled by a release valve. The operator opens the valve, and the weight of the load pushes the cylinder rod back down — gravity does the work. There is no hydraulic power required for lowering, which is why these cylinders are single-acting (pressure on one side only). Browse the complete forklift hydraulic cylinder range.

Why the Extreme Rod-to-Bore Ratio (87–89%)?

At 87.5–88.9%, the pallet truck lift cylinder has the highest rod ratio of any forklift hydraulic cylinder. The Φ35 rod inside a Φ40 bore leaves only 2.5 mm of wall thickness on each side. This extreme ratio serves a specific purpose:

Minimum Envelope

The cylinder must fit inside the narrow body cavity of a pallet truck — often less than 60 mm wide. Every millimetre of bore diameter adds to the overall truck width. The compact bore keeps the truck profile slim enough to enter standard pallet openings (typically 90–100 mm between stringer boards).

Load-Bearing Rod

The thick rod carries the full pallet weight (up to 2,000–2,500 kg on standard pallet trucks) through a short linkage. The rod functions more as a structural column than a hydraulic piston — the hydraulic system only needs to push the column upward, while the column itself supports the static load at height.

Low Oil Volume

The small annular area between bore and rod means very little oil is needed to extend the cylinder. This reduces the pump size, battery consumption (on electric trucks), and the operator effort needed per pump stroke (on manual jacks). A smaller hydraulic reservoir keeps the truck lighter.

Key Advantages

  • Ultra-compact envelope — installation distance 233–355 mm fits inside the narrow body cavity of standard pallet trucks without increasing the truck's overall height or width.
  • 87–89% rod-to-bore ratio — the highest in the forklift cylinder family. Minimises oil volume per cycle, reducing pump size, battery consumption, and manual pumping effort.
  • Single-acting simplicity — hydraulic pressure raises the forks; gravity lowers them through a release valve. No hydraulic power needed for lowering — the weight of the pallet pushes the rod back down.
  • High-volume replacement part — pallet trucks are the highest-volume material handling equipment in warehouses worldwide. The lift cylinder is a wear item that requires periodic replacement, creating consistent aftermarket demand.
  • Hard-chrome rod, precision bore — despite the compact dimensions, the rod is hard-chrome plated and precision-honed for seal longevity. The short 120–155 mm stroke means the rod cycles through the same narrow zone hundreds of times per shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pallet truck brands are compatible?

The lift cylinder is a standard hydraulic component — compatible with any pallet truck that uses the matching bore, stroke, and installation distance. Common compatible brands include most Chinese, European, and Japanese electric and manual pallet truck manufacturers. Confirm dimensions before ordering.

Why is the stroke only 120–155 mm?

A pallet truck only needs to raise the forks enough to lift a pallet clear of the floor — typically 85–200 mm of fork elevation. The linkage mechanism between the cylinder rod and the forks amplifies the stroke slightly. More stroke would increase the truck's height and weight without any benefit.

Can this cylinder work on a manual pallet jack?

Yes — the same cylinder design works in both electric and manual pallet trucks. On a manual pallet jack, the operator pumps the handle to build hydraulic pressure. The cylinder is single-acting regardless of the pump type — the hydraulic principle is identical.

What causes a pallet truck to stop lifting or lower slowly?

The most common causes are: worn piston seals (oil leaks past the piston, so the cylinder cannot build pressure), a failed release valve (cannot hold pressure), or air in the hydraulic circuit (spongy lift, incomplete stroke). If the cylinder seals are worn, the complete cylinder should be replaced — field seal replacement on these compact units is impractical.

How often does the lift cylinder need replacement?

Typical service life is 3–5 years in a distribution centre with daily use. High-throughput operations (200+ pallet moves per shift) may need replacement sooner. The cylinder is usually the longest-lasting component on a manual pallet jack — wheels, bearings, and pump seals tend to fail first.

Can I order in high volume for fleet replacement?

Yes — pallet truck lift cylinders are Korea Ever-Power's highest-volume forklift cylinder product. Volume pricing is available for fleet orders. Browse the complete forklift hydraulic cylinder range.

What Our Customers Say

★★★★★May 2026

"We replaced lift cylinders on 40 electric pallet trucks across 3 warehouses. The Φ45×Φ40×125 specification was a perfect match. At this volume, Korea Ever-Power's pricing was approximately 45% below our previous supplier. All 40 units are running without issues after 6 months."

K. Larsen — Fleet Manager, Denmark

★★★★★Jan 2026

"Our manual pallet jacks were all failing to hold lift height — the loads would slowly sink back to the floor. Swapped the lift cylinders for Korea Ever-Power Φ40×Φ35×120 units and the problem disappeared immediately. Clean lift, solid hold."

V. Soares — Warehouse Supervisor, Portugal

★★★★☆Sep 2025

"Good quality, compact design. The 233 mm installation distance on the Φ40 model fits perfectly inside our pallet truck body without any modification. One minor point: we ordered 50 units and 2 had minor chrome marks on the rod — replaced under warranty without issue."

T. Suzuki — QC Inspector, Japan

★★★★★Jun 2025

"We distribute pallet trucks across Southeast Asia and needed a reliable cylinder supplier for our after-sales programme. Korea Ever-Power delivers consistent quality batch after batch — we have placed 6 orders over 18 months with zero quality issues."

P. Tran — After-Sales Director, Vietnam

★★★★★Feb 2025

"The Φ45×Φ40×155 specification matches our rider pallet trucks exactly. We also source tilt and lifting cylinders from Korea Ever-Power for our counterbalanced forklifts — having one supplier for the entire fleet simplifies everything."

M. Weber — Purchasing Manager, Austria
