Reach Stacker Telescopic Cylinder

Reach stacker telescopic cylinder — the hydraulic actuator that extends and retracts the boom on container reach stackers, providing the linear telescopic movement needed to reach containers 2–4 rows deep. Bore 200–220 mm, rod 150–180 mm, stroke up to 8,000 mm, 30 MPa. Korea Ever-Power. ISO 9001. OEM & ODM.

Reach Stacker

Reach Stacker Telescopic Cylinder

A reach stacker needs to pick containers from the second, third, even fourth row — without moving. The telescopic cylinder extends the boom outward by up to 8 metres, reaching over the front stack to grab a container behind it. Retract, lift, swing, place. 30 containers per hour.

How Telescopic Boom Extension Works

Reach Stacker Telescopic Cylinder

A reach stacker's boom consists of a fixed outer section and one or more telescoping inner sections. The telescopic cylinder extends the inner boom section outward — increasing the stacker's reach from the minimum (first row, directly in front) to the maximum (typically 4th row, up to 15 metres from the front axle). The cylinder retracts to pull the boom back to minimum reach for travelling or placing containers in the front row.

The 8,000 mm stroke is the longest in the reach stacker cylinder family. At full extension, the cylinder carries the entire weight of the suspended container (up to 45 tonnes for a loaded 40' container) at maximum moment arm — the highest mechanical stress point in the reach stacker's operating envelope.

Korea Ever-Power engineers the telescopic cylinder for each stacker model within the offshore hydraulic cylinder range. Browse the luffing (#25) and steering (#26) cylinders for the complete reach stacker system.

Reach Stacker Hydraulic Cylinder Family

Three cylinder types work together on every reach stacker:

Telescopic (#24) ← this product

Extends/retracts the boom horizontally. Stroke up to 8,000 mm. Determines the stacker's maximum reach.

Luffing (#25)

Raises/lowers the boom vertically. Controls lifting height for stacking 2–5 containers high.

Steering (#26)

Turns the wheels for yard navigation. Same function as the stacker steering cylinder but sized for the heavier reach stacker.

Key Advantages of the Telescopic Cylinder

  • 8,000 mm stroke — reaches the 4th container row from the aisle. This eliminates the need to reposition the stacker for deep-stack operations, saving 30–60 seconds per container move.
  • High rod-to-bore ratio — the 150–180 mm rod inside a 200–220 mm bore provides the column strength needed to resist buckling at full 8-metre extension under a 45-tonne suspended load.
  • Heavy-duty rod protection — the fully extended rod is exposed to port dust, rain, and accidental contact with containers. Chrome or ceramic coating combined with a multi-lip wiper system protects against contamination and scoring.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many telescopic cylinders does a reach stacker use?

Typically 1 telescopic cylinder inside the boom. The cylinder extends/retracts the inner boom section via a sliding rail system.

Can the telescopic cylinder handle a 45-tonne loaded container at full reach?

The cylinder itself provides the extension/retraction force. The container weight is carried by the boom structure and the luffing cylinder (#25). However, the telescopic cylinder must resist the friction and bending loads from the sliding boom sections under full load.

What is the typical extension/retraction speed?

Full extension (8,000 mm) takes 8–15 seconds depending on flow rate. Retraction is typically faster (gravity-assisted on inclined booms).

What rod surface treatment is recommended?

Hard chrome for standard port environments. Ceramic (HVOF) for coastal ports with high salt exposure or dusty inland terminals.

Can all 3 reach stacker cylinders be ordered together?

Yes — telescopic (#24), luffing (#25), and steering (#26). Browse the offshore hydraulic cylinder range.

What Our Customers Say

★★★★★Jun 2026

"The telescopic cylinder on our Kalmar reach stacker extends smoothly to full 7,500 mm reach. After 12 months of 3-shift operation (~300,000 cycles), the rod surface is in excellent condition."

Y. Tanaka — Equipment Manager, Japanese container terminal

★★★★★Feb 2026

"We ordered telescopic + luffing + steering for 4 reach stackers. Korea Ever-Power delivered all 12 cylinders in a single shipment. Every cylinder matched our existing mounting dimensions."

E. Johansson — Procurement Manager, Swedish port operator

★★★★☆Oct 2025

"Good replacement telescopic cylinder for our aging Hyster reach stacker. The ceramic rod coating is a significant upgrade over the original hard chrome. Minor delay on delivery (11 weeks vs quoted 9)."

A. Obaseki — Maintenance Supervisor, Nigerian port

★★★★★Jul 2025

"The 220 mm bore telescopic cylinder handles our 41-tonne loaded container operations at 4th-row reach without any deflection issues. The high rod ratio provides good column stability."

C. Park — Operations Director, South Korean container terminal

★★★★★Mar 2025

"Second fleet order. Consistent quality across orders placed 12 months apart. Korea Ever-Power maintains dimensional tolerances within the same batch — important for our standardised fleet."
