The chaser (tail belt) mechanism is the rear conveyor section of a stacker reclaimer. While the cantilever boom (controlled by the skeleton pitch cylinder #27) handles material on the stockpile side, the chaser conveys material from the machine's central structure to the yard's fixed conveyor system. The chaser pitch cylinder adjusts the angle of this tail belt to align the discharge point with the yard conveyor.

Misalignment between the chaser belt and the yard conveyor causes material spillage, belt tracking problems, and reduced throughput. The chaser pitch must be adjusted as the stacker reclaimer travels along its rail — because the yard conveyor position is fixed while the machine moves. The cylinder provides continuous angle adjustment to maintain correct alignment at every position along the stockyard.
